Stuff

Well, I'm back in Orange County. But tomorrow I leave for San Diego for Capus Crusade's Winter Conference. And I finally got my wireless internet working (it was a weird problem, with a kinda wierd solution, and I couldn't have done it before I learned a bunch about TCP/IP at my internship).

This Makes Me Feel Better

Save Yourself!!

If it's not too late, be sure to avoid seeing Eragon.

And no, this isn't Stephen being "they totally messd up on converting the book to a movie."

This is Stephen syaing "Obviously, nobody involved with the movie read the book. Excpet the guys who cgi'd the dragon. Oh, and apparently the screenplay writer had a full frontal lobotomy at some point, because even as a stand-alone movie, it MADE NO SENSE!"

The fact that I have to ponder whether this or "Manos: The Hands of Fate" is just a bit of a clue at the abomination this is.

Seriously. It's not even about saving the money. It's about the time you will be wasting.

Ugh.

My brain feels dirty.

Edit: The fact that I have to ponder whether this or "Manos: The Hands of Fate" is worse is just a bit of a clue at the abomination this is.

I blame this on the shock and horror I continue to experience. I may never recover...

It's Not That She's Unaware of My Existence

It's that she's unaware that she should be paying attention to me...

Shall I go So Far As To Put It This Way?

Of course! And if I go too far, gently correct me, but know I went too far because we've got a problem. What am I talking about? Lemme throw this out there.

As Christians, if we worry at all about whether or not we're sinning, then we've fallen into legalism. If my computer wasn't sucking right now, I'd quote a verse, but instead, let me paraphrase. If we worry about meeting the law on any point, we are obligated to obey the whole thing. And we fail at that. Period. Especially in our culture. I mean, just try having your latrine outside the city proper while in Southern California...

Christ dies not just to forgive our sins, but to bring us into a new, better covenant. In this covenant, we are judged not on our failures, but our accomplishments. So yeah, we want to avoid the behaviors that the law taught us to avoid. But not because these behaviors are sinful, but because they hold us back.

It's like we've horrible financial habits. While were poor college students. With no scholarships and no parents to bail us out. So we rack up the debt. We can't buy books, we can't pay tuition, and we just got evicted and are living on the street. Then somebody comes along and pays off our credit cards. Then gives us a plentiful stipend. Now, we could go and spend this stipend on all kinds of stupid stuff. But we don't avoid that stuff because we're afraid of maxing out our credit card. We've got money now. But we're trying to get trough school here, so we buckle down.

Eh...a weak metaphor. But I hope I make my point. And sure, it seems like this change in perspective won't change what we try and do. But it'll change why we try to do it. Besides, there a whole different goal-seeking attitude between trying to figure out how to pay the bills and trying to find good places to spend our (extra) money.

Seeing as AJ Mentioned It...

Yes, yes, I have a plan for rebuilding when civilization collapses. It's still in the form of a bunch of semi-connected ideas, but I'm thinking of making a formal written plan. Why? Because I'm random like that, pessimistic about the future, and have a thing for building. Except I see little that I can build up right here and now.

In any case, if you want into the post-collapse survival community, I'm sure I can accommodate you. I would appreciate a list of your skills (emphasis on survival skills, medieval military skills, and drumline skills a plus).
