This has been quite the weekend…and it’s not even halfway done yet. I’ve got some good stories to tell. So I shall.
Engaged?
The first of these began several days ago. Remember my previous talk of patterns? And the whole chain of marriages that would ensure a great many friends would end up related? Well, when I saw Jessica and Mark had given in, I went over to facebook and sent Rachel this message:
So...there's some background to this, which you should read in my latest blog post (you can check my most recent inported note here and follow the link back. Read the comments too). I reccomend doing that now, so my next sentence can be properly expected.
Will you marry me?
I know, I know, wordy. I’m bad that way. She sent the following reply:
Bwahahahahahahahahahahahah
Sure.
So we changed our Facebook status to say we’re engaged. The outcry has been phenomenal! I never knew I had the ability to so easily confuse so many people! I only got a couple of replies on facebook, but when I went to prom (see next section), about a dozen people were asking me whether or not it was true. What made it all the more interesting was that many of these people hadn’t seen it on facebook…there were rumors going around about me.
Prom?
Friday night, Campus Crusade had our first ever Prom. Why? I have no clue. Blame the strange mind of Amy Grace. But I was there. It was good times. I didn’t dance much, because the friends I’d usually be comfortable around have gone and become couples, and that made things a bit awkward. There were notable moments though.
Ninja
Not too much ninjaness happened. But there were references. Like when I saw some random girl had taken the plastic fedora off the hat rack. I was going to do that, but was waiting for the swing music first. AJ recommended I ninja it from her (he also made sure to mention that killing her would ruin the mood of the dance…). Now, I’m a lawful-good personality. Extremely lawful. So the fact that I spent the next 20 minutes actually considering whether or not to do this tells how badly I wanted that hat. I didn’t do it, by the way.
During the song dedications, “Kung Fu Fighting” was dedicated to Michelle Merino. I felt I actually had to be doing some kind of dancing for this, so I went out. On the dance floor, Courtney Patino started telling me how I had to resist my instincts to take this song as motivation for killing everyone. I explained that I have to tone down the ninjaness whenever Michelle’s around, because she’s a black belt in Tae Kwan Do. By the time we had this conversation over the loud music, the song was done.
Swing King
There was a scheduled time of swing music during the evening (just 10 minutes). So in anticipation, I started asking single girls I knew if they knew how to swing dance. The few that did had already been taken. Until I found Jennifer Harris. When the swing music rolled around, we moved onto the floor. We immediately discovered that we know different swing styles. So we wasted precious “Sing, Sing, Sing” time while she adjusted to my style. But then we were busting out. I taught her a few new moves I knew, she taught me a move or two she knew. We continued dancing through “Zoot Suit Riot.” Then she was all tired and left. During the next song, I tried to non-verbally ask one of random girls who seemed to know what she was doing to dance. If she even noticed me, she completely missed my cues. So I found Holly and dance with her. Holly had no clue what she was doing, but she seemed to catch on. Besides, it’s the guy’s job to lead. So I did, and we actually were pretty cool out there. Afterwards, I taught her the basic step and the different ways the guy can spin the girl. She’ll be ready for next time.
The upshot of all this swing dancing was that I established a reputation for myself as a swing dancing master among the people who know me and were there. At least four or five people commented on my swing dancing.
AJ, Dancing
I should never have doubted the man during those years where he claimed he’d be perfectly willing to dance once he had a girlfriend. Mad props to AJ for busting out. When I finally get a swing dance night happening, you’ll master that as well….
On “patterns”
There was a pattern I had noticed months ago regarding attractive females. Namely, that they were sharing names with my female cousins. First, there was ****** at church. Then, when I talked to that cute girl at winter conference, I found her name was ******. Then, when ****** started worked at Albertsons, I figured something was afoot.
However, I had not gotten ******’s number at Winter Conference, and then ****** recently quit Albertsons. I thought the pattern was resolving itself, when ****** randomly showed up at work and said Hi to everyone. I joked to myself that next I would run into ****** again. I’m pretty sure I saw her running about at Prom. When the photos are all up, I’ll try and verify…
I’m not sure what this means…I still see ****** every Sunday (and most Wednesdays) at our church things. Maybe I should shake off my shyness and make an effort to talk to her again. Hmm…
What now?
Well, Sunday is when (along with several others) I’ll be presented as formally joining the
