Why I'm Suddenly Endeared Towards the French

So, good news for Raytheon. The NCS (Network Centric Systems) division, where I work, has achieved CMMI level 5. I'm not entirely sure what that means, but it seems that for some kind of engineering processes standard system, we're as good as it gets.

Now Raytheon, like most companies, has a policy against alcohol on company property. It's easy to understand why. Our site has some interesting things going on, though. You see, half of us there work for Thales Raytheon Systems, a joint venture with Thales, a French defense company. Thales, being French, happens to have wine on their facilities (the French ones, at least). But that they do caused people to request wine for our facility. And for the party tomorrow (that whole CMMI level 5 thing), the request has been granted. Wine and beer shall be present. They won't let us take any back to our desks, but I'm totally taking advantage. And also being wary in the parking lot when I leave...

Also, today I completed one of my greatest quests. I had recieved a Border's gift card from a friend this last weekend. Entering the store, I began a systematic search that I had done in every bookstore for the last few months, ever since AJ informed of a book titled The Children of Hurin. Well, this time, I found it. It cost almost the whole gift card, but it was worth it. I was as giddy as if someone had downloaded everything there was to know about Kendo into my brain. I was so happy you'd think it was my birthday...oh wait.

So have you started Children of Hurin yet? I saw it in Barnes and Noble the day after it came out (I think), and I haven't seen it there since . . . and I figure I should probably try to tackle The Silmarrilion again before I try something new, but it looked interesting . . .

Also, just out of curiosity, have you ever read Return of the Shadow?

What is this Children of Hurin book about?

I just bought Children of Hurin through Amazon, but it hasn't arrived yet. The order was lost, so they're sending it again.

Stephen, I love this story. Thanks for sharing. The concept still baffles me. I feel like my place of occupation would never allow this especially because we just began this new alcohol and drug policy which even prohibits having too much to drink from the night before in case you smell like alcohol in the morning at work. (Although its not a problem with me).
